If you’ve answered trade press, consider the claimed circulation numbers, how many people actually read all of every issue, what roles the readers have in their companies, the cost of advertising with a large enough space and often enough to get noticed. Then, of course, you can’t actually say very much to your reader in one ad. If you try, they probably won’t read it anyway.

If you’ve answered your sales force, consider the time they spend getting appointments, cold calling, knocking on doors and then, perhaps finding that the customer is not quite ready to purchase. Sales people are vital, but the process can be inefficient.

If you’ve answered the internet, consider the unknowns – you don’t really know who is reading your site or asking for information. It’s easy to waste a lot of time and give away valuable information that you might rather some people didn’t know.
